Psychiatry is a medical specialty that specialises in treating mental illness. This means I trained to be a medical doctor before training to become a psychiatrist. I can prescribe medication and can consider you physical health and other treatments when looking at your mental health.
For many people medication can make recovery easier, and I may recommend it. However, it is your mental health we are treating. A treatment plan is something you decide upon after using my expertise and opinion. I do not force you to take medication and we will work together however you decide to recover.
If you have been told you need a formal diagnosis for some official reason, I may be able to help with that. A diagnosis from a psychiatrist of a mental health condition is accepted in most circumstances. Of course, I must assess you fully, and independently decide that the diagnosis is appropriate.
I do assess for and treat adult ADHD, though please be aware that the diagnosis process can be time consuming and will likely take 2+ sessions. There are also corroboration, verification and fact-checking steps that are required before any diagnosis can be made.
I do work through telehealth
I do not do WorkCover work.
I am not a specialist in forensic psychiatry or child and adolescent psychiatry. I recommend that patients needing these services seek a psychiatrist experienced in these sub-specialties.
I do item 291 assessments.
